How To Use Time Is Money Multiple User Capability

Run Time Is Money over a network

Time Is Money's multiple user capability is very simple to use. It allows a single user to enter timeslot information, export it and send it to an administrator. The administrator then can import the data into their own database and print reports or do whatever they wish with the data.

This functionality allows anyone to be able to have multiple users enter data without requiring a network.

Here is how it works:
USER
  • Install the program on the system being used.
  • When the program is first run, the databases will be created. If you already have data, the databases will be converted.
  • You will be asked to create a default user. This is not necessary, but if you want to create one, go ahead.
  • Usage:
    • Enter timeslot information as usual
    • At the end of the week or whatever period necessary, export the period worth of data.
    • Send the files to the administrator.

ADMINISTRATOR
  • Install the program on the system being used.
  • When the program is first run, the databases will be created. If you already have data, the databases will be converted.
  • You will be asked to create a default user. Do not create one, select No when the question is asked.
  • Usage:
    • Create all the users that will be sending timeslot data to you. Create your own user identity if you will be entering timeslots.
    • If your time is being tracked, set the default user if you want. Note that reports will be filtered by this user, so the default user will have to be set to <none> before doing reports which need to show all users.
    • If your time is also being tracked, enter timeslots as usual.
    • Import user data when it is sent. Select the user to assign this timeslot data to.
    • Display/print reports: make sure the default user is set to <none> to display information for all users.
Note:
- If you have a network and want to use a shared or mapped drive, Time Is Money can open files specified with a network address or mapped to a local drive letter. But make sure the shared resource has full read and write permissions set since the file does get written to when it is opened.

NETWORK USE

Time Is Money is also capable of running over a network. The simplest method to move the files is to run the program and select the File/Change Database Location menu item. Then follow these steps:

  1. Select a network location for the database files.
  2. Exit the program.
  3. Re-run the program. New files will be created in the new location.
  4. Import the old data if necessary.
Please note that performance may be poor. We are working on a client/server version that will improve the performance.
